The Bonded Tree, 2008
Oils on Wood
Bonded Tree was inspired by my fascination with twins and how they are connected to each other. I'm not sure how interesting the idea was, but to me i wanted to show a painting of two beings that seemed sad and disconnected from the world because they lived in a world that they could not move from. The foxes represent other people who mate and play and love, they have eggs because those are symbols of new life, the moths are fragments of the world. So when the one twin holds the egg, it means she is longing for a chance to be reborn. The other twin looks a little scared when she sees outside her world.
So really the idea is that they are a plant that grows and grows and is part of the world because the world is around them, but they are not free to move within it.
